Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 star anise
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 1 piece orange rind
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar, plus more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  2. Warm the ingredients over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until steaming, but do not let it boil.
  3. Let the mixture warm for at least 10 minutes, ideally closer to 20, to allow the flavors to infuse and the sugar to dissolve.
  4. Remove the spices and orange rind from the pan.
  5. Serve the mulled wine warm, and top with orange slices if desired.
  6. Adjust the sweetness by adding a little more sugar or honey to taste.
