Ingredients

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (or lime zest)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons rum (preferably Venezuelan)
  • 1 teaspoon Angostura bitters
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • Cinnamon stick (and/or ground cinnamon) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the whole and evaporated milks in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Beat the egg yolks until fluffy, then add them to the warm milk along with the lemon zest.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and nutmeg to taste.
  4. Constantly stir the mixture on low heat until it thickens to prevent the egg yolks from coagulating.
  5. Let the mixture cool for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, then strain it.
  6. Add the sweetened condensed milk, rum, and Angostura bitters, and blend using an immersion blender.
  7. Adjust the rum to taste, if desired.
  8. Serve the drink topped with a cinnamon stick and/or sprinkled with ground cinnamon.
