Ingredients
- 4 egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (or lime zest)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons rum (preferably Venezuelan)
- 1 teaspoon Angostura bitters
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- Cinnamon stick (and/or ground cinnamon) for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the whole and evaporated milks in a saucepan over low heat.
- Beat the egg yolks until fluffy, then add them to the warm milk along with the lemon zest.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and nutmeg to taste.
- Constantly stir the mixture on low heat until it thickens to prevent the egg yolks from coagulating.
- Let the mixture cool for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, then strain it.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk, rum, and Angostura bitters, and blend using an immersion blender.
- Adjust the rum to taste, if desired.
- Serve the drink topped with a cinnamon stick and/or sprinkled with ground cinnamon.
