Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 1/4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 tbsp evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/8 tsp lemon zest (or lime)
  • 1 tbsp rum (preferably Venezuelan)
  • 1/4 tsp Angostura bitters
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • Cinnamon stick (and/or ground cinnamon)

Instructions

  1. In a non-stick saucepan, heat the whole and evaporated milks over low heat.
  2. Beat the egg yolk until it turns white using an electric mixer, then add it to the milk along with the lemon zest.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and nutmeg to the mixture, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon on low heat to prevent coagulation of the egg yolks, until it thickens.
  4. Let the mixture cool for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, then strain it.
  5. Add the sweetened condensed milk, rum, and Angostura bitters, then mix well using an immersion blender.
  6. Taste and adjust the rum if necessary.
  7. Serve the drink topped with a cinnamon stick and/or sprinkled with ground cinnamon.
