Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 1/4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/2 tbsp evaporated milk
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1/8 tsp lemon zest (or lime)
- 1 tbsp rum (preferably Venezuelan)
- 1/4 tsp Angostura bitters
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- Cinnamon stick (and/or ground cinnamon)
Instructions
- In a non-stick saucepan, heat the whole and evaporated milks over low heat.
- Beat the egg yolk until it turns white using an electric mixer, then add it to the milk along with the lemon zest.
- Add the vanilla extract and nutmeg to the mixture, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon on low heat to prevent coagulation of the egg yolks, until it thickens.
- Let the mixture cool for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, then strain it.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk, rum, and Angostura bitters, then mix well using an immersion blender.
- Taste and adjust the rum if necessary.
- Serve the drink topped with a cinnamon stick and/or sprinkled with ground cinnamon.
