This 1937 British cocktail, named for a train that ran between Manhattan and Chicago for much of the twentieth century, strikes an unexpected balance between velvety creme de cacao and refreshing gin, lemon juice, and Lillet.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. Lillet Blanc
  • 1/2 oz. light crème de cacao
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 lemon twist, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine gin, Lillet Blanc, crème de cacao, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Cover the shaker and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds.
  3. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist.
