Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon loose-leaf black tea
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • Optional: 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: 1/8 vanilla bean
  • Optional: ground tamarind (to taste)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons evaporated milk (or coconut milk or whole milk)

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof container, steep the black tea, star anise, cardamom, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, tamarind powder, and almond extract (if using) in the boiling water for 5 minutes.
  2. Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve to remove the tea leaves and spices.
  3. Stir in the sugar and sweetened condensed milk until fully dissolved.
  4. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the prepared tea over the ice, leaving space at the top for the evaporated milk.
  5. Top up with more ice if needed and drizzle 2 teaspoons of evaporated milk over the tea.
