Ingredients

  • 5 oz light or medium dry red wine, such as Rioja
  • 1/2 to 1 oz brandy or rum
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed juice from 1 orange, plus 2 wide strips orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed juice from 1 lemon, plus 3 wide strips lemon zest
  • 1/2 navel orange (3.5 oz), cut into roughly 1-inch pieces, seeds removed
  • 1/2 large apple (5 oz), cored and cut into roughly 3/4-inch dice
  • 6 oz club soda or seltzer water, well chilled
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup, plus more to taste
