Ingredients

  • 1 handful ripe strawberries (about 4 medium), quartered
  • 1 oz. tequila
  • 1/2 oz. Cointreau (or Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 5 large basil leaves, clapped between your hands
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice, add the quartered strawberries, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  2. Clap the basil leaves between your hands a couple of times, then add them to the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously for about 20-30 seconds until the shaker is very cold, and the strawberries and basil have bruised and torn, turning the mixture light pink in color from the strawberries.
  4. Double strain the mixture into an ice-filled old fashioned glass.
  5. Garnish with a basil leaf.
