Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch each allspice and cloves
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- whipped cream (for topping)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of sugar until light.
- In a large saucepan, heat the milk, cream, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the spices over medium heat until steaming, for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- While whisking the egg yolk, slowly add some of the steaming milk. Begin with a few drops and gradually pour in a thin stream while whisking.
- Once about 1 cup of milk has been added to the eggs, pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, whisking constantly.
- Stir in the bourbon and heat on low until the eggnog is hot and thick, approximately 5 minutes, continuing to whisk.
- Pour a small amount of the eggnog into a glass and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
