Ingredients

  • 1 cup water (2 cups if a milder flavor is preferred)
  • 2 slices of fresh ginger (about 1/4 inch wide)
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice (adjust according to preference)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (each broken into two)
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 slice of lemon (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil and add the fresh ginger.
  2. Prepare four serving mugs, each with 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 1/2 cinnamon stick, 1 star anise, and 2 cardamom pods.
  3. Once the water is boiling, pour 1/4 cup into each mug.
  4. Add 1 oz of bourbon to each mug and stir. Optionally, remove the spices except for the star anise.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with a slice of lemon.
