A classic cocktail with a mysterious origin, the Southside Cocktail is a refreshing blend of gin, lime juice, simple syrup, and mint, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 oz. gin
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 3/4 oz. simple syrup (1:1, see headnote)
- 8-10 fresh mint leaves
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)
- Mint leaf, for garnish
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine gin, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, mint leaves, and Angostura bitters, if using.
- Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds, or until frosted on the outside.
- Double strain the mixture into a coupe glass.
- Garnish with a mint leaf.
- For an East Side variation, muddle a few cucumber slices with the mint and garnish with a fresh cucumber slice.
- To make a highball version, serve over fresh ice in a highball glass and top with club soda.
