Smoky Agave Margarita
A delightful twist on the classic margarita, the Smoky Agave Margarita combines tequila, mezcal, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup for a complex and flavorful cocktail with a hint of smokiness.
Ingredients
- 3/4 oz mezcal
- 3/4 oz reposado tequila
- 3/4 oz orange liqueur (such as Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, Cointreau, or triple sec)
- 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/4 oz simple syrup
- Ice
- Sal de gusano (worm salt) or kosher salt
- Lime wedge
Instructions
- If using the salted half rim, sprinkle a thin layer of the sal de gusano on a small shallow bowl or plate.
- Run the lime wedge along half of the rim of a rocks glass, then dip the rim into the salt mixture.
- In a shaker, combine the tequila, mezcal, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup.
- Add ice to the shaker, cover it, and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the drink is well chilled.
- Fill the glass with ice, then strain the margarita into the glass.
- Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy immediately.
