Ingredients

  • 3/4 oz mezcal
  • 3/4 oz reposado tequila
  • 3/4 oz orange liqueur (such as Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, Cointreau, or triple sec)
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • Ice
  • Sal de gusano (worm salt) or kosher salt
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

  1. If using the salted half rim, sprinkle a thin layer of the sal de gusano on a small shallow bowl or plate.
  2. Run the lime wedge along half of the rim of a rocks glass, then dip the rim into the salt mixture.
  3. In a shaker, combine the tequila, mezcal, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  4. Add ice to the shaker, cover it, and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the drink is well chilled.
  5. Fill the glass with ice, then strain the margarita into the glass.
  6. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy immediately.
