Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Pinch of baking soda
- 1 stick of Mexican cinnamon
- 2 cloves
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp rum or brandy
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves, then stir.
- Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it boils, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 8 to 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks.
- Mix the beaten egg yolks into the cooled milk mixture and return the saucepan to the stove.
- Heat the mixture over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Remove from heat, strain with a sieve to remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks.
- Add rum or brandy, mix, and allow to cool in the refrigerator for at least two hours.
