Ingredients

  • 1 lime, cut into four pieces, juice of 1 lime, and lime wedges, for garnish
  • 1 tbsp. light or dark brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 basil leaves
  • 2 sprigs mint, plus additional for garnish
  • 1.50 oz. Bulleit Bourbon
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the lime pieces, lime juice, brown sugar, salt, basil, and mint vigorously to release the aromatics from the herbs and juice from the lime.
  2. Add bourbon and enough ice to fill the cocktail shaker, then shake vigorously until the mixture is well-chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture, preferably using a Hawthorne strainer to retain some of the herbs and citrus pulp, into a julep glass filled with crushed ice.
  4. Garnish with lime wedges and sprigs of mint.
