Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 oz heavy cream
  • 5 oz whole milk
  • 1.50 oz Maker's Mark 46 Bourbon
  • 1.50 oz spiced rum
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon + extra for garnish
  • 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream, ground cinnamon, and a gingerbread cookie for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the heavy cream and milk over medium heat until steaming. Add in all the spices along with the vanilla extract. Heat until simmering, but not boiling.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and sugar until creamy.
  3. Gradually temper the egg yolks by slowly adding a small amount of the heated milk to the bowl while whisking together.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Heat until the temperature reaches 160F using a candy thermometer.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a pitcher or serving ware and chill in the fridge for 4 hours. Once cool, add the rum and Maker's Mark Bourbon.
  6. Garnish with whipped cream, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, and a gingerbread cookie.
