Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 oz heavy cream
- 5 oz whole milk
- 1.50 oz Maker's Mark 46 Bourbon
- 1.50 oz spiced rum
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon + extra for garnish
- 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cloves
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream, ground cinnamon, and a gingerbread cookie for garnish
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, heat the heavy cream and milk over medium heat until steaming. Add in all the spices along with the vanilla extract. Heat until simmering, but not boiling.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and sugar until creamy.
- Gradually temper the egg yolks by slowly adding a small amount of the heated milk to the bowl while whisking together.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Heat until the temperature reaches 160F using a candy thermometer.
- Transfer the mixture to a pitcher or serving ware and chill in the fridge for 4 hours. Once cool, add the rum and Maker's Mark Bourbon.
- Garnish with whipped cream, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, and a gingerbread cookie.
