Ingredients

  • 4.20 oz Red wine (good quality)
  • 0.80 oz Ruby Port
  • 0.55 oz Soft Brown Sugar
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 1/4 tsp Cloves
  • 1.50 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick (broken in half)
  • 1/2 inch Fresh ginger
  • 1/6 Orange (cut into segments)

Instructions

  1. In a large pan over low heat, combine the port and wine.
  2. Add the sugar and allow it to dissolve completely.
  3. Add the star anise, cloves, bay leaves, and broken cinnamon sticks to the pan.
  4. Place the piece of fresh ginger into the pan and let the wine warm through for 5 minutes, ensuring it does not boil.
  5. Transfer the warm mulled wine into heat-proof glasses and serve. Alternatively, allow the wine to sit for two hours to infuse the flavors, then reheat and serve.
