Ingredients

  • 1.50 oz good quality tequila
  • 1.50 ruby red grapefruits
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon agave nectar
  • Splash of sparkling water
  • Coarse salt and rosemary for rim garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven broiler.
  2. Slice one of the grapefruits in half and the other half into wedges. Place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Combine brown sugar and white sugar, then sprinkle the mixture over the grapefruit halves and slices.
  4. Broil for 8-10 minutes until the grapefruit is caramelized.
  5. Squeeze the broiled grapefruit halves into a cocktail shaker, enough to yield one cup of juice.
  6. Add lime juice, agave nectar, and tequila to the shaker, then shake with ice.
  7. Mix coarse salt and dried rosemary on a plate, wet the glass rim and dip it in the salt mixture.
  8. Pour the margarita over ice and garnish with the broiled grapefruit wedges. Add a splash of sparkling water if desired.
