Ingredients
- 1/8 cup water
- 1/8 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 whole star anise
- 1/4 tsp whole allspice
- 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 oz white wine
- 3 oz cranberry juice
- 3 oz pear juice
- 2/3 oz brandy
- 1/2 to 1 oz spiced simple syrup (depending on sweetness preference)
- 1/8 cup fresh cranberries
- 1/2 medium pear, chopped
- 3 oz champagne or prosecco
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise, and allspice. Heat over medium-high, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Once the mixture gently boils, reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and allow the syrup to cool completely. Remove and discard the cinnamon stick, star anise, and allspice. Store the syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- In a large pitcher, combine the white wine, cranberry juice, pear juice, brandy, and simple syrup. Stir to combine and adjust to taste.
- Add the cranberries and pears, then refrigerate the mixture for several hours to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, gently pour in the champagne and mix. Serve the sangria over ice.
