Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 vanilla bean (split lengthwise)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon vodka
  • 1 tablespoon brandy

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla bean until it reaches a temperature of about 160 F.
  2. In a bowl, beat the egg yolk until smooth. Slowly add a few spoonfuls of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolk, stirring quickly to temper the yolk.
  3. Gradually pour the tempered egg yolk into the milk mixture while stirring constantly. You may use an immersion blender for a smoother consistency.
  4. Over low heat, continue stirring the mixture to maintain a temperature of about 160 F for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Add both the vodka and brandy, stirring until well combined.
  6. Strain the mixture through a sieve into a large measuring cup or a clean bottle using a funnel, discarding the vanilla bean and any solids.
  7. Refrigerate the liqueur overnight before serving in small cups or egg cups.
