Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons cream
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 vanilla bean (split lengthwise)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon vodka
- 1 tablespoon brandy
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla bean until it reaches a temperature of about 160 F.
- In a bowl, beat the egg yolk until smooth. Slowly add a few spoonfuls of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolk, stirring quickly to temper the yolk.
- Gradually pour the tempered egg yolk into the milk mixture while stirring constantly. You may use an immersion blender for a smoother consistency.
- Over low heat, continue stirring the mixture to maintain a temperature of about 160 F for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Add both the vodka and brandy, stirring until well combined.
- Strain the mixture through a sieve into a large measuring cup or a clean bottle using a funnel, discarding the vanilla bean and any solids.
- Refrigerate the liqueur overnight before serving in small cups or egg cups.
