Ingredients

  • 6 oz whole cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 oz orange juice
  • 2 tbsp cranberry syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz orange liqueur
  • Ice
  • Granulated or sanding sugar for rimming the glass

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, granulated sugar, lime juice, and orange juice.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the cranberries burst. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Puree the syrup in a blender and strain it through a fine mesh strainer into a container. Refrigerate until cool.
  4. Wet the rim of a cocktail glass with water or lime juice and dip it into granulated or sanding sugar to coat the rim.
  5. Fill the glass halfway with ice.
  6. In a cocktail shaker, combine cranberry syrup, tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
  7. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass.
